Text Box: teers put forth tremendous efforts removing the bricks and chunks of cement from the slab of the old hospital (Confederate Soldier’s Museum).  This archaeological project yielded a large number of artifacts for conservation.  With the supervision of the state archaeologist and our own curator this work is now substantially complete.

Text Box: Since January 1st Beauvoir has been honored by the presence of a considerable number of volunteer work parties.  These parties have been coordinated by different agencies such as the Methodist Church, Lutheran Church, Hands On USA, Tourism Cares, and other organizations.  Universities such as University of Central Michigan, Mississippi State, University of Georgia and St. Olaf’s College (Minnesota) have been well represented at Beauvoir.

Text Box: concentrated debris.  However, on a site of this size small pieces of debris of all types were scattered here and there and could not be retrieved practically with heavy machinery.  So strong backs and wheel barrels were brought into play.  It was here that the volunteers did their greatest work.  Limbs of all sizes, bricks, brick pieces, shingles, slate, cinder blocks, boards, and all kinds of other items were collected and piled for future removal.  It would have taken our staff months to do what these work parties accomplished in a few weeks.
